Autumn Update

UPDATE OF PAUL & JOYCE TRAVIS WORKING WITH FREEDOM IN CHRIST

Romans 8:22-23 says: “For we know that the whole creation GROANS and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves GROAN within ourselves. eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

Thank you for praying and having a part in this ministry, seeing people set free from their bondages. All of us live in the midst of the turmoil of this world, but we do not have to be a part of it. we may be enjoying victory. This is why you & we have been helping these hurting people. We pray that this ministry is like the story of Lazarus [John 11] Jesus raised him from the dead and the first thing Jesus said to Mary and Martha was: “Loose him, and let him go.” In other words, “take off his grave clothes.” This is a description of the purpose of our ministry. Your prayers and gifts enable people to hear how they can be relieved of their grave clothes. Then they enjoy being both redeemed and relieved.

We continue to have about as much work as we can handle. Praise the Lord and thank you for your prayers and support.

People have been asking us: “how can we know God’s will?” This may help:

Believing God has a plan and a will for us. “Show me Your ways O Lord.” Psalm 25:4,5,14. Being right with God, and if we come to a complete submission to Him, He will let us know His will. Rom. 12:1-2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

Willingness
We need to be submissive to the Lord and claim His promise of John 7:17 “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know… ” This is being willing to do whatever He says. Do not hurry, but wait before Him.

God’s Word
“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass.
Delight yourself in the Lord … and Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Psa. 37:3-7, 23  Ready and willing, separated from the world and valuating God’s Word trusting fully in the Lord, leaning not on our own understanding, but acknowledging Him and He shall direct our paths. Prov. 3:5-6, Eph. 5:I 7

Prayer
Pray that God will guide us through the Holy Spirit and His Word, not just going by feeling. Start the day with prayer, bathe everything in prayer and step on no ground over which we have not prayed. Psalm 32:7-9

Trusted Friendly Counsel
Mature and godly counsel can benefit. Often things happen that we cannot explain. Usually it’s God speaking.

God’s Peace
God grants peace. Remember just as it is difficult to steer a car without power steering, so it is with knowing God’s will, when standing still; stay on the move. Also stay close to the guide. Pray to hear the Lord say:” This is the way, walk in it.” Isa. 30: 21.  Only as we are in agreement with God do we have peace. Remember that no diamond is ready for God’s jewel box until it is cut, ground and polished, so are we.

It’s a joy to see the change in their lives when they simply start believing more of God’s truth. So far we’ve never advertised, but God always knows who and when to send believing souls that need some help. We are learning that verse in Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ WHO STRENGTHENS ME (US).”

Very thankfully,
Paul and Joyce

Ministry Letter – July, 2017

GOD’S UNSURPASSING LOVE —- BY HIS WOUNDS WE ARE HEALED

“But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities… and we are healed by His wounds (Isa: 53:5 HCS).”

Because of His wounds we are forgiven of all our sins. A study of His wounds is very revealing and enlightening. He suffered five types of wounds. We will never understand the suffering He went through when He cried to His Father, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?” However, we can take a fresh look at the physical wounds He experienced while He was being mocked, scourged and crucified.

LACERATIONS-He was “scourged” (the tearing of His flesh) Matt. 27:2. PUNCTURE –They placed upon Him a crown of thorns (the piercing of His flesh) Matt. 27:29.  CONTUSIONS –They took a reed and “kept hitting Him on the head” (bruising His flesh) Matt. 26:27; 27:30. PERFORATION –He was nailed to the cross ( piercing His flesh, all the way through) John 20:25. INCISION-(A clean and open wound)- “the soldiers pierced His side with a spear” John 19:34.

W speaks of His willingness. He came for the purpose of dying for our sins on the cross. Phil. 2:6-8

Ospeaks of omnipotence. He had power to lay down His life and to take it again. John I0:17-18

U speaks of understanding. He completely understood why He was going to the cross. John 12-24-33

N speaks of necessity. He had to drink “the cup” of suffering – no other way. Heb. 9:22

D speaks of deliverance. His death accomplished our great deliverance. Gal. 1:4; 6:14

S speaks of satisfaction. God the Father was completely satisfied. Isa. 53: 10-11

When Christ finished His work on earth and on the cross, He cried, “It is finished.” Redemption had been paid for. We praise the Lord for His complete provision, and invite everyone to be completely satisfied as well.

God’s love was so great that He wanted to give His Son on Calvary to pay for the sins of mankind. Yes, His love is unsurpassed. We don’t deserve anything, but He gave us His choicest love gift – His Son dying in our place. John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Activities and Family Update:
Our granddaughter, Kara, was married to a fine Christian man in Louisville, Kentucky.
Another granddaughter, Heidi, spent eight weeks in Austria in Biblical study at Torch Bearers Evangelistic Organization, which was founded by W. Ian Thomas.
We believe more and more of the importance of prayer, so we are involved in the Freedom in Christ SE prayer conference calls.
Two trips to Hickory NC was providing training and resources to a lady who has been helping many hurting people (pictured with Joyce below in the PDF copy).
Seven Steps to Freedom is an intensive process done individually, and takes 3-5 hours each. A father and son were taken separately through the Steps to Freedom as well as a wife on a Saturday and husband on Sunday afternoon. Several individuals have driven for distances to come and experience freedom, including a pastor and several Christian leaders.
Two couples have come on Saturday mornings for discipleship training. Each of them are presently teaching Bible classes. The two men pictured were trained at the four-day Practicum in Knoxville TN,
We spent time in one church teaching on Discipleship and filled a pulpit in another church on Sunday morning. We have had the privilege of spending time with Christian leaders around food and mentoring.

While we praise the Lord for what He has done, we are also very thankful for your prayers and gifts to this ministry. We will never cease marveling at your faithfulness and how the Lord is changing lives. Thank you so much, and may the Lord really bless your ministry and activity for His glory.

Blessings and love,

Paul and Joyce

Summer Newsletter – 2016

We never cease being amazed how the Lord uses faithful people like yourselves to provide for the needs of this ministry. Many are finding freedom in Christ from all kinds of needs. We thank you for your part in making this all possible.
Helping hurting people and those that just need freedom from bondages is continuing. We minister often at our home church. Also we have been proclaiming our message to other churches. For example the Pisgah Forest Baptist Church near Brevard, NC. Recently we spoke there on Sunday morning. As a result we have been engaged for ten Sunday evenings speaking on “Grace vs. Legalism,”taken from our book, “Grace That Breaks the  Chains.”
We have enjoyed good health for decades.but our doctor just found two large kidney stones that need to be removed. Please pray that our series of messages will not be interrupted too much. Also after the series is over, the Lord willing, we will be ministering another series on Grace and Freedom at Ridgecrest Conference Center, speaking three times to the Association of Christian Chiropractors (mentioned on the Internet). This will involve many across the United States. In the past they have usually met annually out west, but have chosen to meet in the east this year.
We are mentoring a couple on Sunday afternoons. This has enabled them to teach in our church. They teach at public school and have been enjoying attending the baptisms of some of their students, who ask them to attend at their churches.
Labor Day weekend will soon be here, a weekend where over 125,000 extra people come to our town for the Apple Festival. Main Street is closed for ten blocks and arejust 50 feet from the front door of our church. Tents will be put up and tables to give out gospels of John and Mark along with gospel tracts.
This also will include special gifts for the children. Please pray that we will be effective in witnessing to many about the love that God has for them and that they can know our Savior personally.
With all our busy schedule we didn’t plan Joyce breaking off a tooth and probably requiring removal of other teeth and replacing with a full denture.
Many of us believers have grown up with a lot of legalism, which means that we endeavored to win points with God by our behavior and do’s and don’ts. We praise the Lord for grace that doesn’t lower the standards, but raises them. The wonderful thing is that we are not under law but under grace. We have the completed scriptures and the Holy Spirit to rest upon to allow Christ to live His life in us with victory.
Very often we incorporate the contrast between legalism and grace. This does not mean that we can be casual or do as we please; but it means that we surrender to Jesus Christ and allow Him to live His life in and through us, who will always please His Father.
We ask you to pray that God will be the Great Physician to us to enable us to lead more people to enjoy freedom in Christ. We praise the Lord for the wonderful results of what proclaiming freedom and grace with the amazing love of Christ. We haven’t had to miss a beat yet; but we’re trusting the Lord to finish well. It’s such a blessing to be able to trust the Lord and depend upon Him to accomplish His perfect will.

Spring Newsletter – 2016

PDF copy is here:  Spring_2016 prayer letter

We want to express our appreciation for your prayers and gifts to this ministry. The verse that the Lord has given us is Psalm 37:7: “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”We have to remember that we are totally dependent upon the Lord, for we cannot accomplish anything apart from him.

Our desire is to share the love of Jesus Christ. Our prayer is for the Lord to flood our hearts with His love so that He will use us as we help Christians needing help. We are finding that the Lord wants every phase of our life to be a phase of love.

We often pray for the Lord to keep us from being involved in co-dependency because we who counsel can fall into this. It simply is gaining value and worth by rescuing people. It also is a matter of enabling and over protecting. We can easily think that we’re gaining worth by rescuing people. However, it must be accomplished by the Lord and as the result of an individual’s actions.
We cannot do any of the following for someone else: each of us has to do it our self.

  • Think (Phil. 4:8)
  • Put on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:11 -18)
  • Take every thought captive (II Cor. 10:4-5)
  • Resist the devil (James 4:7)
  • Renounce (II Cor. 4:2)
  • Pray (Eph. 6: 18; I Thess. 5: 17)
  • Confess ( Rom. 10:9-10)
  • Stand firm (Eph.6:13-14)
  • Forgive (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13)

When we accepted Christ as our personal Savior, we made a choice. The decisions we make every day are choices. Deut. 30:19 describes the Lord saying: “I have set before you life and death…therefore choose life….”  Joshua reminded Israel of God’s grace and blessings, and exhorted them: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve (Joshua 24: 15).  Heb. 1 1 :15 records the tremendous choice that Moses made.

In discipleship counseling we have often found that people are continuing to ask God to take away their desire to participate in a certain sin, with no seeming answer from God. Our hearts go out for people who continually ask God to act when God is waiting for them to take a definite step away from the sin.  A person shared that he was being attacked by Satan, who was saying: “You keep asking God to take away your desire and He hasn’t done it. What kind of a god do you have anyhow?” When he took specific action, he soon had victory. Praise the Lord.
Because of the calls we receive, we sense churches and individuals are drifting from real victorious living. Many are experiencing all kinds of spiritual battles and pressure. Please pray that we will have the wisdom of the Lord and patience in helping these precious believers. We desperately need your prayers and we are very thankful for how you all have been standing with us. May the Lord receive all the praise.

Spring Devotional & Prayer Letter

Our current personal prayer letter in PDF is available here: Spring Ministry Letter 2016

PT_Easter_16Many of you have blessed our hearts as we have been conscience of your prayers and gifts to this ministry. We thank you for your faithfulness and gifts of sacrifice. We praise the Lord for wanting to use you  to help in this ministry, leading people to have freedom in Christ. Nothing is as wonderful and precious as knowing that we serve a risen Savior.

Angels Proclaim His Resurrection, and the book of Acts records the apostles heralding Christ’s resurrection. If the resurrection had not occurred our faith would be empty and without foundation. Just think, if Christ had not risen from.the dead, where would this leave us? What assurance would we have about anything in life? Our confidence, our thoughts about death and our hope about existence after this life would all be affected. Our hope extends beyond this duration on earth because Jesus truly has risen from the dead. The Roman soldiers could not prevent it, and this great event has been proclaimed  ever   since.

The Empty Tomb Displays It. Not only was Christ’s grave empty, many other graves were opened (Matt. 27:Sl-S4). A great miracle was evident because Christ’s grave clothes were left neatly and all in place. These kind of grave clothes could not appear to be undisturbed, for they would be in a heap. This resurrection was a tremendous miracle.

Christ’s Appearances Confirm It. In Acts 1:2-3 it states: “Until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also prevented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proof, being seen by them during forty days…”

Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection…in every leaf in spring-time.We continue to be experiencing more and more discipleship counseling opportunities by phone and many coming to our offices at home. Speaking in churches is increasing, and our ministry of mentoring has also grown; so pray that we will receive the wisdom that we need from the Lord. We thank the Lord for individuals that seem like blotters, taking in God’s Word. Time is so filled and rewarded with people wanting to know the freedom that comes in yielding to the Lord. We will be glad to find that there are no clocks in Heaven. “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom.10:9). Thanks so much for your prayers and gifts. May the Lord reward you graciously.

The greatest truth is that our Redeemer lives. With this in mind, we wish you a most blessed and joyful Resurrection season.

Paul & Joyce
