Ministry Update – May 2020

News from Paul and Joyce Travis

Thanks everyone for being so concerned and lovingly helpful. The Lord has continued this ministry because of these prayers and it only involves people coming for help as one’s and two’s. It has been a marvel to see how the Lord works through His people. We are looking forward to when we get to heaven as believers and can share how He has guided and provided.

We praise the Lord for the great amount of prayer and gifts that have come in for Joyce’s great need of not being able to chew and eat properly. Most ladies enjoy losing weight, but this has been a great loss. However, it has been a blessing that she has been able to work on the computer and use the phone. She has always been a good listener and a real prayer partner, praise the Lord.

We are doing more and more mentoring work which is like following up counseling for a length of time. This has been very profitable. Thank you for your prayers. A pastor has continued for over a year; and has been passing along to needy people. 2 Timothy 2:2 tells us to “Commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” A couple has received mentoring for several months and has been busy teaching ever since. Joyce is waiting till the middle of June to have caps put on her implants.

We have noticed many people who seem to have great fear and seem discouraged, so we’re asking you to pray that the Lord will make us effective in leading people to allow God to bring peace,  joy and freedom. When we were writing our book on legalism, we were always trying to describe legalism and came up with the idea that there are two different types of legalism. There is “restrictive legalism” (don’t do this, don’t do that) and there is “aggressive legalism” (do this, do that). We now find that fear also has two types: “unholy fear” coming from the enemy satan and “holy fear” that comes from the Holy Spirit.

Unholy fear comes as a result of depending upon self and the flesh; whereas holy fear is having total dependence on God. The Lord does not want us to have unholy fear; He wants us to develop holy fear and depend upon Him.

If we truly fear God, we will have no other fear. Holy fear is not wanting to ever disobey the Lord. Today we are finding people almost everywhere disobeying God; and we are trusting the Lord to lead them to realize how wonderful it is to please the Lord. He tells us not to fear or be afraid; but He also tells us to fear His Father and that is the beginning of wisdom, Psalm 111:10. Unholy fear started back in the Garden of Eden where fallen man became afraid and hid himself. Rather than having faith in God, man started to have fear. Fear and faith are opposites.

Much of satan’s desire is to solicit a fear response. In 1 Peter 5:8 the Lord says, “Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” Why does a lion roar? He does this to lead someone to be fearful. When satan instills us with fear we temporarily have no defense. We must face satan with the truth. James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Satan’s strength is in the lie; so when we expose it, his power is broken.
This is why it is the truth that sets us free.

We value your prayers and support for this ministry. May the Lord bless you all.
